What Is a Health & Safety Audit?

Legionella is a bacterium that can grow in water systems in workplaces and commercial properties, causing Legionnaires’ disease; a potentially serious illness.

Adequate water management systems and a regular Legionella Risk Assessment are essential to safeguard anyone coming into contact with your water systems and to meet your legal obligations.

Routine Legionella Risk Assessments, combined with water sampling services, help to keep your premises, and anyone who uses it, safe.

Who Needs a Legionella Risk Assessment?

Employers, landlords and property managers must comply with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and standards.

Failing to carry out a thorough Legionella Risk Assessment can have serious health consequences and may result in legal action.

Full-service Compliance and Water Sampling:

  • We conduct thorough water sampling using only UKAS-accredited laboratories for Legionella and Pseudomonas water sampling
  • Our specialists can also provide a complete Legionella Risk Assessment alongside water sampling to identify all potential hazards in your water system
What Does a Legionella
Risk Assessment Involve?

A Legionella Risk Assessment involves a review of your water system, including:

  • Risk Identification
  • Evaluating Control Measures
  • Recommending Actions

This systematic survey inspects tanks, pipework, outlets, and maintenance records to prevent conditions that allow Legionella to thrive in your water system. These conditions can be – stagnant water, water temperature between 20-45C, sludge, scale, rust etc.

At Bison Assist, our accredited laboratories conduct Legionella testing and Legionella tests to ensure each test meets strict quality and compliance standards.

Once you have placed your enquiry, our goal is to arrange a site visit within 10 working days of your booking; in most instances, we can get out to you a lot sooner.

We will require full access to your premises in order to carry out a Legionella Risk Assessment.

Non-intrusive site visits:
You don’t need to close your business or adjust your day for the assessments to take place. We work around your appointments, staff and patients to ensure our site visits are non-intrusive.

Aftercare:
We will walk you through any required changes detailed in your assessment/s. At Bison, we don’t carry out any of the remedial work, so you have peace of mind that we don’t benefit from highlighting problems that don’t exist. Our sole aim is to keep you compliant.

Annual reminder:
We will be in touch each year when you are due to update your risk assessment/s. We will remind you by phone and email ahead of your renewal date.

How Often Should You Assess Legionella Risk?

A Legionella Risk Assessment should be reviewed annually, or sooner if:

  • Significant changes are made to the water system
  • New equipment is installed
  • Changes in key personnel
  • Existing controls fail or are deemed ineffective
  • New guidance or research becomes available
  • An incident

High-risk systems, like older systems in hospitals or hotels, may require annual assessments according to HSE guidance. Contact us to learn more about water system surveys and risk reviews.

Who’s Responsible for Water Sampling?

Employers and landlords are legally responsible for identifying hazardous substances, including Legionella and understanding the risks involved.

Regular water sampling ensures your water systems remain safe, protecting anyone who uses the premises and maintaining compliance.
